Four Rivers Art Therapy

I’m so glad you’re here. As a Professional Art Therapist, I offer gentle, supportive art therapy for adolescents and adults — both online and in person, one-to-one or in small groups.

My work focuses on nurturing caring, respectful connections. I draw on person-centered, trauma-aware, anti-oppressive, and strengths-based approaches. Together, we co-create a safe, empowering space where you can explore at your own pace.

Art therapy invites time to pause, reflect, and discover fresh insights about yourself. It’s a space where creativity belongs to everyone, and where healing can unfold through the art-making process with the steady support of a trained art therapist.

At Four Rivers, compassion and creativity flow together, helping participants to walk gently toward growth and healing.

What is Art Therapy?

Art therapy weaves together creativity and psychotherapy to support self-exploration and understanding (Canadian Art Therapy Association, 2025). The creative process offers a safe way to express thoughts and feelings that may be overwhelming or too tender for words.

"Art therapy and engagement with the arts have been shown to reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety, ease pain, help people heal from trauma, protect against cognitive decline, and enhance social cohesion, among other benefits" (World Health Organization, 2019).

At Four Rivers Art Therapy, I provide art therapy services that focus on fostering wholistic well-being and personal growth through creative expression.

I’m here to help you explore your inner world through art, in a space that feels safe, inclusive, and empowering — and we might even have some fun while we’re at it!

Frequently asked questions

"Is art therapy only for artists?”

Art therapy is for everyone—whether you’re seeking an alternative to traditional talk therapy or a companion to it. No art skills are required—just a willingness to explore. Curiosity and play are welcome guides on this creative journey of healing and discovery.

"Will I need a list of specific art materials to participate?”

You don’t need a specific set of art supplies to take part in art therapy. We encourage imagination in choosing what to create with—often the simplest things are the most inspiring. Old magazines and junk mail become vibrant collage materials, while recycled and upcycled items take on new life in the creative process. Whenever possible, we also welcome the gentle use of ethically gathered natural materials, connecting creativity with the rhythms of the earth.

"What are ethically sourced natural materials?”

Ethically sourced natural materials include branches, leaves, and other elements that have already fallen to the ground. When gathering from the land, we invite a mindful pause—checking inward to sense whether the vegetation feels like it is offering itself for your artmaking. In eco-art therapy, we may also create impermanent works outdoors, designed to remain in place and respectfully return to the Earth.

"Do you accept insurance?”

As a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) and Professional Art Therapist, I provide receipts that include my registration number and professional details for submission to your insurance provider. Many Canadian insurance providers, like Blue Cross, Canada Life, Desjardins, Green Shield, and Manulife, cover art psychotherapy services as it is recognized as a form of psychotherapeutic counselling. Coverage details vary by plan, so it's best to check your specific policy.

Land Acknowledgement

I am living and learning on the traditional unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq people. This territory is covered by the Treaties of Peace and Friendship first signed by the British Crown in 1726. These treaties were not about the surrender of lands and resources. These treaties recognize Mi’kmaq title and established an agreement for what was to be an ongoing relationship between nations. As a French-Acadian, Irish and Scottish settler, I am learning what it means to be in right relationship to this land and all who reside here. I extend deep gratitude for the sacred wisdom and teachings that Indigenous peoples share, and appreciate the ways of respect and reciprocity for all beings.
